Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. They define three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

Canopy conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. "Conforms to" means that the content of this website meets the Level A and Level AA success criteria of WCAG 2.2. Accessibility is part of how we design, build, and review new features, so that our website stays conformant as it grows.

Measures We Take to Support Accessibility

To meet this standard, our website includes — among other measures:

  • Structure and navigation. Pages use semantic HTML landmarks (header, navigation, main content, and footer), each navigation region has a distinct name, and a "Skip to main content" link lets keyboard and screen-reader users bypass the header. Headings follow a logical order.
  • Images and media. Meaningful images have text alternatives, and purely decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology so they don't add noise.
  • Forms. Every field has a programmatically associated label, identity and password fields declare their autocomplete purpose to work with password managers, and errors and confirmations are announced to assistive technology.
  • Keyboard support. All interactive controls — including file-upload areas, carousels, menus, and icon-only buttons — are fully operable with a keyboard and expose an accessible name.
  • Dialogs and menus. When a dialog or menu opens it moves focus to its content and keeps focus within it; it closes on the Escape key where appropriate and returns focus to where you were.
  • Visibility and contrast. Our color palette is designed to maintain sufficient contrast in both light and dark themes, and a visible focus indicator is shown on every focusable element.
  • Target size and zoom. Interactive targets meet the minimum size for comfortable touch use, and content reflows without loss of information when the page is zoomed or viewed on small screens.
  • Reduced motion. Animations, including celebratory effects, are disabled automatically when your system requests reduced motion.

Compatibility with Browsers and Assistive Technology

Canopy is designed to be compatible with recent versions of major web browsers — including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge — on both desktop and mobile devices, and to work with commonly used assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, and voice recognition software. Canopy is not designed for older browsers that do not receive current security and standards updates; some features may not work as expected in those environments.

Accessibility of Canopy relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

Third-Party Content

Some functionality on Canopy is provided by third parties whose content we do not fully control:

  • Payments. Checkout is handled by Stripe. We surface all essential pledge information in accessible text on our own pages before and after payment.
  • Laboratory reports. The original PDF reports provided by independent labs may not always meet accessibility standards. We publish the key results from every report as accessible text and tables on our pages, so the underlying data is available without needing to open the PDF.
